Safeguarding

Effective safeguarding in schools is so important for identifying the warning signs of any abuse or harm to children. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Safety is of paramount importance to us and it is something which we regularly talk to the children about and have embedded within our curriculum and practice. As part of our commitment to the being a United Nations Rights Respecting School, children understand that they have a right to be safe at all times. (United Nations Children's Rights Charter; Article 19 The right to be safe).

What to do if you are worried about a child

Who to contact AT NETHERTON

Designated Safeguard Lead: Emma Barker

Deputy Designated Safeguard Lead: Gill Lodge

Deputy Designated Safeguard Lead: Helen Need

What happens if there is a cause for concern?

Our first priority is of course each child’s welfare and school is required to take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its pupils.

However there may be occasions when we have reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse. We will ensure that our concerns about a child are discussed with his/her parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.

In this case school is obliged to follow the Child Protection procedures and inform the Children's Social Services of the concern.

If you are worried about a child's safety please do not hesitate to contact the school or contact Kirklees safeguarding.
